About Us

Who we are

basilica.istanbul is an independent travel guide to the Basilica Cistern in Istanbul - the underground chamber also known as Yerebatan Sarnıcı. We are not the venue, we do not run it, and nothing on this site comes from its operator.

The site is published by Travel Ticket Box, an independent publishing platform operated from France and Spain, as part of its network of attraction guides. Travel Ticket Box builds guides to the places people actually visit, with prices checked and ticket options compared.

Why this site exists: the Basilica Cistern draws over a million paying visitors a year, yet most of what is written about visiting it is either the venue's own sparse page or a reseller's sales copy. There was no honest, current guide to what a visit actually involves - the sessions, the evening reset, what "skip the line" does and does not do here. So we wrote one.

How we work

Prices, session times and access rules are checked against the venue operator's publications and against live booking listings. Where a figure can change - and ticket prices at this venue change often - we say so on the page rather than guessing.

Where sources disagree with each other, we say that too. The 18:30 closure reset, the separate Night Shift ticket, the fact that the Museum Pass does not work here - these are the details visitors actually trip over, and they are the ones we check hardest.

How the site earns money

Some links on this site go to booking partners. If you buy through one, we receive a commission. It does not change what you pay, and it does not decide what we recommend - several pages advise you to skip products entirely when that is the right answer.
